What to bring when you vote in person

When you vote in person, please bring:

  • Your Voter Information Letter — it speeds up check-in.

  • One piece of valid ID showing your name and Burlington address. Photo ID is not required.

Accepted ID includes an Ontario driver’s licence, Ontario photo card, cancelled personalized cheque, insurance policy or statement, or another document on Ontario’s approved voter identification list. International IDs and permanent resident cards are not accepted.

If you did not receive a Voter Information Letter, you can still vote. Bring valid ID with your name and address, and election staff will help confirm your eligibility. If you plan to vote online and need a replacement letter, email election@burlington.ca.

Are you eligible?

You can vote in Burlington’s municipal election if you are a Canadian citizen, are at least 18 years old, and live in Burlington, or you or your spouse own or rent property here. Even if you own or rent more than one property in Burlington, you may vote only once.

Everyone deserves access to the ballot

Eligible voters experiencing homelessness can vote. If you do not have ID showing a qualifying Burlington address and are not on the Voters’ List, visit the Service Burlington counter at City Hall during regular business hours to complete an Affidavit of Residence and an Application to Amend the Voters’ List.

If you are already on the Voters’ List but do not have ID showing your name and qualifying address, you can complete a Declaration of Identity form at an advance voting or Election Day location.

Need someone to vote for you?

If you are unable to vote online, at an advance poll, or on Election Day, you may appoint an eligible Burlington voter to vote on your behalf through proxy voting. You and your proxy must complete the Appointment for Voting Proxy Form and have it certified at City Hall, 426 Brant St. Your proxy will then bring the certified form and their valid ID to a voting location.

Your voice matters

In this election, Burlington voters will choose our Mayor, one City Councillor in each of our six wards, and school board trustee(s). These decisions shape the services, neighbourhoods, and future we share.

Please take a few minutes to confirm your voting plan, check for your Voter Information Letter, and encourage the people around you to do the same. Every voice matters and every vote helps shape the Burlington we are building together.

With gratitude,
Lisa
